Two of the accused in the Joshlin Smith trial take the stand for their statements to be scrutinised.
As the sixth week of the Joshlin Smith trafficking trial comes to an end, two of the accused — Stevano van Rhyn and Jacquen “Boeta” Appollis — return to the stand.
A trial within a trial is ongoing to determine whether the confessions made by the accused can be used in the main trial.
On Wednesday, defence attorney Nobahle Mkabayi told the court that Van Rhyn was not informed of his rights before his interview with Sergeant Dawid Fortuin, making the entire process questionable.
The trial continues.
