Al Jama-ah’s Thapeo Amad is the new Joburg mayor. Amade was voted in on Friday at the 13th extraordinary council meeting. Amad’s election comes after the ouster of the Democratic Alliance‘s (DA) Mpho Phalatse from office through a motion of no confidence. The no-confidence motion was brought by the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Al Jama-ah, and the African Independent Congress (AIC).
“I am the first Muslim mayor of South Africa’s economic hub” says Thapeo Amad.
