Desmond Tutu was born in Klerksdorp in 1932, and would go on to become one of South Africa’s most respected and beloved icons.
Before he was The Arch, he was a teacher. He would eventually enter the priesthood, receiving his training at St Peter’s Priory by the Community of the Resurrection, before becoming an anti-apartheid icon, Nobel Laureate, and South Africa’s moral compass.

After Apartheid ended, Tutu’s fight wasn’t over. He continued to speak truth to power, and would even go on to criticise the ANC government for their excesses and corruption.
