Kwaito group aims for the big time

“We believe that to become somebody in life, you have to start small and go big.” These were the words of the music producer, Menzi Mahlalela of local kwaito group Dallar First Entertainment.

It was established in 2011 with the sole aim of promoting local kwaito music. This publication learnt that it had worked with local groups in producing hit songs which include “Kwaai-Kop” and “Legento”.

“When we started, our main aim was to produce our own brand of music, but due to lack of resources, we are not at that level yet, but we believe that with the little we have, we can make a difference. We are not in the music industry for money, but for the love of it. Even though we are hustling so far, we have managed to release three albums. Our goal is to earn money to buy good equipment,” he explained.

Mahlalela said currently they were promoting their music on their local community radio, BCR FM and performing in clubs such as Sicalo Court in KaMhlushwa, Rockafellaz and they also entertained the crowd during the safety crime Imbizo last year so that they could be promoted.

“Today it might be seen as a joke to others, but we are confident and determined that one day we will have our own kalawa in the province and the positive response that we are receiving during our performances show that people love our vibe because we want to focus on local music.

“When there are huge events, Mpumalanga always outsources, but we have our own stuff. That will play a significant role not only in making money, it will also boost our economy as a province and prevent young people from doing bad things. If we could get a good studio or equipment, people will understand what I am talking about and it will be a dream come true.

“Ngoba kusibobinke abantu ababekelwe ukusebenza ema office abanye bazelwe kuba bosomabhisini kanjalo abanye ukubabaculi,” he said.

When Mpumalanga News visited the group in their one-room shack. They were busy editing songs and rehearsing.
