Local offers an open door to students

KANYAMAZANE – After struggling to find accommodation during his tertiary years, Prince Wandile Ubisi opened up his home to prospective students for free.

Ubisi, an advocate by profession, said he offers a two-week stay for free while students are busy with registration.
He revamped his parents’ home, adding more rooms downstairs and on the top floor there are cupboards, beds and Wi-Fi. All of this came out of his own pocket. He has accommodated students from as far as the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, among other provinces, using social media.

When Mpumalanga News visited Ubisi’s home, Fezile Ngobese and Simphiwe Sibiya, both from the same household in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal, were currently in residence. They are currently busy with registration at the University of Mpumalanga.

He shows off one of the rooms still under construction.

Sibiya wishes to pursue a BCom, while her cousin hopes to be accepted to study financial management. They heard from other prospective students about the free accommodation when they arrived two weeks ago. They thanked Ubisi for giving them shelter.

“We are grateful to have met bhut’ Wandile, because we really had no place to sleep and we only brought a few clothes with us thinking we would go back home after registering. We’ve had a great stay here and hopefully all goes well,” Ngobese said.

Ubisi’s wish is to continue assisting more people. He encouraged the public to follow him on social media where he usually interacts with students around the country. Follow him on Facebook: Nkosana Wandile Ubisi.
