Volkswagen’s black style ‘suits’ now available on Polo Vivo and Golf 8 GTI

Volkswagen has broadened its ever popular black style package out to the locally made Polo Vivo as well as the recently introduced Golf 8 GTI.

Revealed two years ago on the Tiguan and Touareg, the appearance package, in the case of the Vivo, can be specified on either the mid-range Comfortline model for an additional R9 000 or for R8 250 on the top-spec Highline.

Only available on models finished in Pure White, Reflex Silver, Reef Blue and Flash Red, the black pack comprises black 16-inch Portago alloy wheels and as per the name, gloss black finishes for the mirror caps, bootlid spoiler, chrome tipped exhaust outlet, B-and C-pillars, and the roof. Inside, an anthracite roofliner rounds the package off.

No mechanical changes have taken though with motivation still coming from either the normally aspirated 1.4-litre petrol engine outputting 63kW/132Nm, or the free-breathing 77kW/153Nm 1.6-litre petrol. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard on both with the latter offering the option of a six-speed Tiptronic.

On the Golf GTI, the package carries an R8 000 premium over the standard R669 300 asking price and includes 18-inch Bergamo alloy wheels, piano key black mirror caps and a piano key black strip on the grille. Like the standard GTI, the combination of the 180kW/370Nm 2.0 TSI engine and seven-speed DSG remain unchanged.

The black pack continues to be offered on both the Tiguan and Touareg with the former adding R28 000 to the sticker price of the recently launched updated Tiguan.

Volkswagen Touareg Black

This means the addition of 20-inch black Suzuka alloy wheels, black finishes on the window surrounds, grille, bumpers and front lower air intake, roof rails and mirrors caps. A black roofliner and standard sport suspension completes the package.

For the Touareg, the black, which costs R45 200, brings blacked-out black chrome details, black roof rails, mirror caps and window surrounds, R-Line style front and rear bumpers, a black grille and black 21-inch Suzuka alloy wheels.
