Volkswagen has made good on its promise of earlier this year by rounding the first quarter of 2023 off with a series updates for the ever popular, locally built Polo Vivo GT.
What’s new?
The range-topping version of the second generation Vivo, which in total has shifted 119 679 units since bowing in 2018, the GT’s new exterior additions comprise 17-inch Mirabeau alloy wheels, silver mirror caps, silver instead of black GT decals at the base of the doors and on the bootlid, and a new colour option called Wild Cherry Red Metallic.
Inside, Volkswagen has been equally subtle by changing the switch work on the cloth seats from blue to red, adding to grey stitching to the gear lever and handbrake gaiter and fitting GT embroidered floor mats.

Spec
As before, the Polo Vivo GT sits 15 mm closer to the ground than the regular model, and comes with standard specification items comprising a four-speaker sound system, the Light and Sight Package, reverse camera with rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor as well as:
- Electronic Stability Control
- touchscreen infotainment system
- anthracite roofliner
- black bootlid spoiler
- chrome exhaust outlet
- front electric windows
- cruise control
- dual front airbags
- ABS and EBD
No change in power
Underneath the bonnet, the GT is again motivated by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder TSI engine that develops 81kW/200Nm. A six-speed manual drives the front wheels, with Volkswagen claiming a top speed of 196 km/h.
Despite no 0-100 km/h sprint time being revealed, Wolfsburg did confirm an unchanged combined fuel consumption figure of 4.6 L/100 km.
Price
Priced at R332 800, the Volkswagen Polo Vivo GT’s sticker price once again includes a three-year/120 000 km warranty, with a service and maintenance plan being optional.
