Under starter’s orders at Joburg Motor Show
The Johannesburg International Motor Show is under starter's orders and the grid is gradually forming as stand constructors and project managers move into the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec producing the amazing stands that will showcase the latest models.
The show gets underway next week with media days on the 16th and 17th October before the doors open to an eager public on Friday 18th October, but what will they be seeing when those doors open?
The latest news is that Renault South Africa is promising to mix a bit of Dakar Rally with Mad Max and the Terminator. The combination conjures up all sorts of images and Renault says this unique concept will materialise in the Expo Centre in the form of the Duster Détour.
General Motors South Africa is also promising a high level of excitement as it showcases the latest models from Chevrolet, Opel and Isuzu like the updated Chevrolet Cruze hatchback and Trailblazer SUV that will also get a mild makeover and will be displayed ahead of its launch later in 2014.
Opel will be showing its new Astra sedan as well as its scorching Corsa OPC Nurburgring Edition which is sure to attract the attention of hot hatch fans at the show.
The latest generation of the popular Isuzu KB bakkie will be on display but for those who prefer to see their bakkie in a more natural environment, visitors will have the chance to put the KB through its paces on the 4×4 track at the Expo Centre.
Toyota South Africa has pulled out all the stops for the show and will have one of the biggest stands with more than 18 cars that will be on display. In a teaser, Toyota has announced that the 86 Open Concept will be at the show. This convertible version of the popular 86 Sports Coupe was shown at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and will be a popular attraction on the stand.
Lexus South Africa will be displaying its blisteringly quick and equally beautiful LFA sports car at the show but it will also pull the wraps off its latest sedan model, which is set to bring new levels of specification and affordability for those who appreciate great style and great value.
Toyota and Lexus will also have a large presence at the outdoor off-road area where visitors will have a chance to put some of their impressive vehicles through their paces on the 4×4 track.
Visitors to the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show are in for one of the most spectacular shows to date and with so many concept cars and new models heading to this international show from around the world, it promises to be true motoring extravaganza.
