Top Gear festival moving to Johannesburg

The Top Gear Festival will no longer take place in Durban this year and plans are afoot to stage the event in Gauteng, the organisers have announced.

Top Gear Live events have enjoyed a great relationship with their South African fans over the years.

Event chief operations officer James Cooke-Priest said they were looking for an alternative destination for another venue to be announced soon. He said South Africa had always been one of their favourite destinations on the tour.

“We have a particular fondness for the crowds we entertain here, as they are always so loud and enthusiastic and return year after year to support us.

“Durban is one of 7 destinations selected to be included in the international tour for 2015. Although we will not be in Durban this year, we are taking steps to stage an alternative Top Gear Live event in Johannesburg. Updates regarding the alternative event will be made in the press in coming weeks,” said Cooke-Priest.

Any fans who had already bought vouchers to attend this year’s event have already been contacted regarding their orders and offered alternatives, added Cooke-Priest.

Top Gear Live is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Brand Events UK. The live events offer an exciting variation on more traditional motoring events. The festivals include elements such as motoring and theatre.

Top Gear Live events had been entertaining over 2.1 million fans in 28 cities around the world since 2008.
