Rumour has it: BMW M2 Competition Pack to boast more power
For the first time, the model gets a more aerodynamic M-style side mirror housing, which isn't found on the stock M2.
Roughly two years since we got a taste of BMW’s M2, the Munich-based car maker has once again been reportedly hard at work readying its M2 Competition Pack.
Disguised prototypes of the M2 CP were seen testing, and according to Motor Authority, an unmasked version of the car photos, interior included were posted on BMW Blog Slovenia on Sunday.
As hard as it may be to spot the changes, the M2 Competition Pack features a wider grille and a larger opening for the intake under the headlight.
For the first time, the model gets a more aerodynamic M-style side mirror housing, which isn’t found on the stock M2.
In terms of interior, the M2 Competition gets bolstered seats sourced from the M4 along with a red starter button and additional M buttons on the steering wheel.
Rumours also suggest that the M2 Competition will swop the M2’s 3.0-litre in-line turbo six engine for a unit found under the M3 and M4.
Code-named the S55, the engine benefits from a lighter crankshaft, stronger pistons, and a few other internal goodies. More importantly, it doubles up on the turbocharging to boost power.
The leaked info reveals the M2 Competition will get 302kW and 549Nm of torque, which is still a healthy boost over the stock M2’s 272kW and 500Nm.
The M2 Competition is expected to be revealed this month ahead of the start of production in July. This means we should see the car arrive in showrooms in the second half of the year, as a 2019 model.
