Regional Extreme Festival fired-up for last round at Zwartkops

Final round promises to be spectacular as no less than 200 entries will be competing over two races each in eight different categories.


The 2023 Regional Extreme Festival should end on a spectacular note at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria this Saturday, with more than 200 competitors in eight separate disciplines taking to the tarmac.

Supercars

The biggest crowd drawcard should be two races for the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars.

Fighting for overall victories should be drivers like Franco Scribante (Scribante Porsche 911 RSR), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Lamborghini Huracan), Stuart White (Into Africa Lamborghini Huracan), Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Aston Martin Vantage), Silvio Scribante (Cemza Lamborghini Huracan) and Charl Arangies (Stradale Mercedes-AMG GT3).

Others to watch could include Ben Morgenrood (Morgenrood Ford Mustang), Pieter Zeelie (Zeelie Auditors Lotus Exige), Charl Joubert (A1 Spares Lotus Exige), Nicky Dicks (Curvent Porsche 911 GT3), Gianni Giannoccaro (BISC Transport Nissan GT-R), Ricky Giannoccaro (ITRE Logistics Lamborghini Huracan) and Arnold Neveling (Stradale Porsche 911 GT3).

The Mobil V8 Supercar category should see Julian Familiaris (Lube-Net Chevrolet Corvette), Franco di Matteo (Deltec Jaguar XKR8), Terry Wilford (Fuchs Ford Mustang), Warren Lombard (Bumper to Bumper Ford Falcon) and Steve Herbst (Prei Instrumentation Chevrolet Corvette) fighting for podium places.

Saloon cars

The BMW M Performance Parts brigade will boast the day’s biggest entry list with 51 cars.

Probable winners must include Leon Loubser (Bid Wheels 335i Turbo), Bob Neil (Delmon Mining M3 Turbo), Andreas Meier (#trainedamateurs 318i STC), Renier Smith (M3 Turbo), Oz Biaginoni (Design Lab M3), Jaco Storm (Truewood 330i Turbo) and Mansoor Parker (Parker Parts 335i).

The Car Care Clinic 111 Sports and Saloon Car races should provide front contenders like Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Golf GTI), Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom BMW 330i), Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Golf GTI), Mark du Toit (TAR BMW Z4), Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Volkswagen Golf GTI) and George Economides (Wealth Avenue Volkswagen CitiGolf Turbo).

Racing behind them, the Car Care Clinic SuperHatch category should be led by drivers like Karel Stols (Pta Noord Toyota Etios), Francis Aldrich (VaporWorx Opel Corsa), Ishmael Baloyi (TAR Honda Civic) and Steve Mearns (Multi Purpose Cement Volkswagen Golf).

Rory Atkinson (BHIT), Wayne Masters (Performance Master), Bevin Masters (CPS Warehouse), Mike Barbaglia (PABAR), Charl Smalberger (Sabertek), Miguel Dias (Performance Master), Chris Dale (Pozidrive) and Mydi Mfana (MDS Engineers) should be the men to beat in the PABAR VW Challenge heats.

Two wheels

The two SunBet ZX10 Masters Cup races should see Graeme van Breda (Stefanutti Stocks ZX10), Trevor Westman (Wayward ZX10), Hein McMahon (K9 Law ZX10), Brian Bontekoning (Moyyair ZX10), Apanna Ganapathy (Art Technologies ZX10), Teddy Brooke (Brook Refrigeration ZX10), Jayson Lamb (TyreMart ZX10) and Johan le Roux (Avidan ZX10) at the front end.

Single-seaters

Front runners in the DOE Formula Vee category should be Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema), Gert van den Berg (DOE Parts Rhema), Jaco Schriks (DOE Parts Rhema), Peter Hills (Mangaza Rhema), Blane de Meillon (Firebreak SA Sting), Theodore Vermaak (DOE Parts Forza) and Eric Booyens (CIM Lubri Rhema).

Starting times and prices

The Zwartkops gates will be open from 07h00, with racing to start at 09h30. Admission will cost R130 per adult and R100 per student, with kids under the age of 12 going I for free. Food and drink will be on sale or you can take your own.

Everybody can visit the pits on foot at any time, with the Zwartkops Mini Moke trains running between the pit gate and the various spectator points throughout the day.
