Peugeot sharpens 2008’s claws, adds charged-up e-2008

The latest model from the PSA Group to ride on the Common Modular Platform (CMP), the 2008’s new coat consists of the redesigned headlights with integrated claw-like daytime running LEDs that cuts into the front bumper, a 5008-inspired 3D grille and a choice of three new colours; Vertigo Blue, Elixir Red and Fusion Orange.

Measuring just over 4.2 m long, the changes to the interior includes the latest i-Cockpit design first seen on the 208, which consists of upgraded materials, a 3D Heads-Up Display, new steering wheel and an infotainment display of up to ten-inches with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, MirrorLink and satellite navigation.

Adding to the new materials such as Alcantara, Nappa leather and faux carbon fibre inlays, the 2008 can also be specified with a 10-speaker sound system developed in co-operation with French audio specialists Focal, which pumps out 515-watts thanks to a 12-channel amplifier.

On the safety-side, and depending on the trim level, the 2008 can be equipped with items such as Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Drive Assist Plus that consists of Lane Departure Avoidance System and Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclists Detection, Automatic Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Warning Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition and Auto High Beam Assist.

In Europe, the 2008 will have a choice of four trim levels; Active, Allure, GT Line and GT with the latter pair receiving the aforementioned LED headlights, a two-tone Black Diamond black headliner, eight ambient lighting colours, diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, so-called Adamite stitching on the seats and for the GT, Alcantara leather with Grevel Grey stitching, which is finished in green with blue knitting on the e-2008.

Offering up to 424-litres of boot space with the rear seats up, the 2008’s international combustion engines consists of a single petrol and turbodiesel, with an electric option being the biggest addition.

Making-up the petrol engines, the familiar turbocharged 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder comes in three states of tune; 74 kW, 96 kW and 115 kW with the latter being solely reserved for the GT. The 1.5 BlueHDI is the only oil-burner option and comes in two states of tune; 74 kW and 96 kW.

While a six-speed manual gearbox is standard on 74 kW and 96 kW petrol as well as on the 74 kW oil-burner, an eight-speed automatic is optional on the mid-range petrol and standard on the higher output version and on the flagship BlueHDI.

As mentioned, the 2008 range is capped off by the new e-2008 which uses a 50 kWh battery pack to produce 100kW/260Nm. Claimed to have a range of 310 km with a charging time of 16 hours or five hours 15 min from a single phase 7.4 kW charger or a three-phase 11 kW charger, the e-2008 can be charged up to 80% in 30 min from a 100 kW charging station, and distinguishes itself from lesser models thanks to blue/green reflecting Lion badge, monogrammed e badges on the front panels, a beaded grille and the mentioned Grevel Grey Alcantara upholstery.
