After numerous line-up reshuffles and model improvements last year, Omoda has introduced yet more updates to the ever popular C5 range in the form of what it now calls the X Series.
The replacement for the standard Lux and Elegance models, with a lowered price tag included, the X Series’ revised exterior consists of black alloy wheels, a redesigned matrix grille and headlights, a new front bumper and the same LED daytime running light motif as the flagship C9.

While no changes have taken place at the rear, the Chery-owned brand has introduced a number of changes underneath the C5’s skin, namely improved brake pedal response and replacing of the torsion beam rear suspension with a multi-link setup.
In addition, the drive mode selector now includes a Normal setting along with the existing Eco and Sport.
Inside, only slight specification changes have taken place, these being upgraded materials on the doors, a more powerful 50-watt wireless smartphone charger and more boot space ranging from 442-litres to 1 149-litres as opposed to the previous 378-1 075-litres.
Underneath its bonnet, the C5 retains the 1.5 T-GDI engine, but eschews the extensively panned CVT for a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
While still producing 115kW/230Nm, the new gearbox is said to have improved fuel consumption from 7.4 L/100 km to 6.9 L/100 km, while also reducing the 0-100 km/h sprint time by nine-tenths of a seconds – this despite no official figure having ever been released.
Soon to go on-sale, the introduction of the Lux X and Elegance hasn’t had any bearing on the entry-level Street and Style variants, or the Lux S and Elegance S that all continue unchanged.
What has, however, changed is a new five-year/70 000 km service plan only available on the X Series, as well as the latter “S” versions. Both the Street and Style make do with two-year/25 000 km plan.
Carried over is the five-year/150 000 km warranty and the first-owner only 10-year/one-million km engine warranty.
