Nissan Navara won’t get X-Class bakkie V6 engine, says Mercedes executive

The reveal was made by X-Class product manager for Australia and New Zealand, Scott Williams.


So you probably know by now that Nissan is toying around with the ideas to have a Navara that will fight Ford’s soon-to-come Ranger Raptor.

While it is still unclear if that will happen, news from GoAuto.com state that the rumoured Navara won’t get Mercedes’ V6 diesel engine.

The reveal was made by X-Class product manager for Australia and New Zealand, Scott Williams, during an interview at the launch of the posh pickup truck in Tasmania.

“They [Nissan] will never get the V6,” he said.

Scott further went on to say that the alliance between Mercedes and Nissan to lend the Navara’s platform for the X-Class does not also involve Daimler’s turbodiesel 3.0-litre V6 being shared with the Japanese automaker.

A report out of Australia in February surfaced stating that Nissan was “studying” the opportunity to create a high-performance version of its Navara to take the fight to the Ford Ranger Raptor.

With Ashwani Gupta, who heads up the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s light commercial vehicle unit, not ruling out the use of Mercedes-Benz’s 190kW/550 N.m six-cylinder engine.
