Nine-Hour race shifts to Killarney circuit

That was announced by the Western Province Motor Club and the organisers of the African Endurance Series last weekend.The Killarney circuit near Cape Town will host this year’s African Nine-Hour Race on December 12.

The race was originally scheduled at Kyalami, but it has since become clear the building operations at that venue will not be completed before the end of the year. “Despite the delays in the reopening of Kyalami, we have decided to push on and hold the African Nine-Hour this year,” African Endurance Series boss Roger Pearce confirmed.

“We investigated various options before coming to an arrangement with the Western Province Motor Club to hold the Nine-Hour at Killarney. “The race will start at 2pm on the Saturday (December 12) and end at 11pm with a huge fireworks display. There will be practice on the Friday and WPMC is planning a festival for the holiday race weekend”, Pearce added.

“The timing of this race falls into place with our long-term plans for the African Endurance Series that will see us racing in the middle of summer. Not only will that ensure the best weather and holiday enjoyment for racers and fans around the country, but we trust it will also lure overseas competitors to break their bleak winters and come to the African summer to race, while at the same time enjoying a great holiday,” says Pearce.

Further details on the Killarney African Nine-Hour will be confirmed closer to the event, but it is understood several new sports, GT and saloon cars will join the grid in December.
