Volkswagen is currently busy testing its eighth generation of the Golf which, according to Motor1, will begin production in June next year.
With prototypes spotted testing, the German manufacturer is also readying its assembly with a huge $2.2-billion investment.
As it is with the current generation Golf, the eighth generation will feature a number of versions, including a hardcore Golf R hot hatch.
According to a report from Auto Express, the Golf R will have 298kW from 2.0-litre turbo engine paired with a mild-hybrid technology using a 48-volt electric system.
That amount of power will be sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The information was confirmed to the British magazine by the brand’s sales and marketing boss, Jürgen Stackmann.
