Suzuki preparing all-new Brezza for unveiling in 2022

Suzuki’s Maruti division in India will kick-start a new product offensive next year with one of the key models being the new Vitara Brezza.

Consistently the country’s best-selling SUV since its market intorduction in 2016, the Brezza, after much speculation -, only came to South Africa at the beginning of this year after a mid-life update the previous year, which saw the Fiat-derived 1.3 Multijet turbodiesel engine replaced by the current 1.5 K15B petrol unit.

According to the latest report by Autocar India, the new Brezza, which leaked online last month, will retain the petrol four-pot, albeit with a series of updates in order to improve efficiency. This will include the fitting of a mild-hybrid system already available on the Baleno and on most of Hamamatsu’s European models.

While still to be confirmed, the application of the hybrid system is not expected to impact on power or torque figures, meaning it will still have 77kW/138Nm at its disposal. The current five-speed manual gearbox looks set to continue, but the dated four-speed automatic will reportedly make way for a CVT.

What will change is the styling. As evident by the images leaked onto YouTube, the Brezza receives a completely new front facia, bonnet and wings, as well as a restyled rear-end and for the first time, the option of a sunroof that has become a recent popular specification item amongst Indian buyers.

Just as big a departure is the interior, resplendent with a new freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, a revised instrument cluster, steering wheel from the current Swift and Ignis, plus gear shift paddles on automatic models. Aside from new specification features, expect a vastly improved assortment of safety and driver assistance systems as well.

In yet another change, the Brezza will drop the Vitara prefix, reportedly as a way of identifying the newcomer as a model of its own with relations to its bigger sibling.

As with the current model, the Brezza will more than likely also spawn a second generation Toyota Urban Cruiser as part of the partnership agreement signed between the two marques two years ago.

Based on the YouTube leak, the Brezza will allegedly enter production in July next year, but expect more details and official images over the coming weeks.
