Muscle and style: Ford Mustang
The Iconic Ford Mustang celebrates its half-centenary around the world on 13 April 2014.
Some 50 of them will be on display tomorrow at Melrose Arch Precinct in association with MOCSA (The Mustang Owners Club of South Africa),
The Mustang, which created the Pony Car class of American automobiles, was launched in 1964. It was priced at an average of $2800 (R30 000) and some change, with some extra options available for $371 (R4 000).
It sold over 22 000 units on the first day and more than one million in two years, becoming one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. Since 1964, more than 9.2 million Mustangs have been sold. Most were built close to Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, US.
The all-new 2015 model will be launched at the end of 2014. Boasting a 3.7 litre V6 or a 5.0 litre V8, it’s loaded with innovative technologies that deliver world-class levels of performance.
