Silent off-roader: Porsche debuts Taycan Cross Turismo
Same electric hardware as the Taycan sedan but more able in the rough stuff.

Porsche has taken the covers off what it bills as its most versatile off-road offering ever made, the shooting brake Taycan Cross Turismo.
Effectively the production version of the Mission E Cross Turismo shown in Geneva three years ago, the Cross Turismo, as its name says, is based on the same adapted MSB 800-volt platform as the Taycan, but with an estate inspired look similar to the Panamera Sport Turismo.
Dimensionally, the Cross Turismo measures 4 974 mm in overall length with the wheelbase at 2 904 mm, the width at 2 144 mm and height at 1 409 mm. Compared to the Taycan, the Cross Turismo is 11mm longer overall and 14 mm higher with wheelbase increasing by four millimetres and the width remaining the same.
Unsurprisingly, boot space is up from the combined 491-litres in the sedan, to 407-litres or up to 1 171-litres depending on the model with the rear seats folded forward. In addition, the Cross Turismo can be specified with an optional Off-Road Package that uses the adaptive air suspension to raise the ride height by 30 mm.
Also included in the pack is a Gravel Mode, wheel arch cladding, front and rear skidplates, cladding at the base of the doors and on the front and rear aprons. Aside from the estate look, the Cross Turismo’s unseen interior is likely to be unchanged from the Taycan in look and design, with the same applying to the specification level and indeed the powertrains.
Mirroring the Taycan, the Cross Turismo derives motivation from the same 93.4-kWh Performance Plus battery driving all four wheels through a unique two-speed transmission, with a choice of four models being offered globally, all with standard launch control.

In the entry-level Taycan 4, output stands at 280 kW with the addition of an overboost function upping the power to 350 kW. Torque is capped at 500 Nm with Porsche claiming a top speed of 220 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The claimed range is 456 km.
Moving one up, the 4S produces 360 kW, or up to 420 kW on overboost, and 650 Nm of torque with the top speed capped at 240 km/h and 0-100 km/h happening in 4.1 seconds. The claimed range is 452 km.
Upping the ante further is the Turbo, whose battery has been geared towards delivering 460kW/850Nm, although the former increases to 500 kW as a result of the overboost. Top speed is limited 250 km/h with 100 km/h from naught dispatched within 3.3 seconds. Claimed range between trips to the plug is the same 452 km as the 4S.
Capping the line-up off is the Turbo S which makes 460 kW, but with overboost engaged, 560 kW plus 1 050 Nm of torque. In its most powerful form, the Cross Turismo will silently sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and top out at 250 km/h. The claimed range is however the least of all the models at up to 419 km.
Porsche South Africa has meanwhile confirmed availability from later this year, with pricing for the Turbo S to be confirmed.
