Hello: All-new Ford Ranger shows its face in new spy images

In an occurrence bound to happen at some stage, the all-new Ford Ranger has had its until now unseen front end completely revealed in a pair of new spy images.

While still wearing the block pattern disguise as in the most recent teaser video released a week ago, the pair of images, posted by the ranger6g.com online forum, shows the newcomer in what appears to be Thailand with the same facia as the Maverick and unsurprisingly, the F-150.

Shown in double cab guise, the prototype is otherwise identical to the example depicted in the teaser in that it features the same side steps, sports bar, cladding around the wheel arches and F-150-esque mirrors.

As highlighted by the mentioned clip, the Maverick touches continue at the rear with the same tailgate, while the light cluster seems to have been taken from the current US-spec Ranger.

Despite no images of the interior being revealed so far, a recent report from Australia’s carexpert.com alleges the inclusion of an F-150 style 15.5-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen infotainment system plus a twelve-inch digital instrument cluster on more than likely higher-end models such as the Wildtrak.

Up front, and as has been reported on a number of occasions, the Ranger, whose platform will be updated and reportedly bear the moniker T6.2 as opposed to the current T6, will dispense with the 2.2 and 3.2-litre Puma engines and retain the current single and bi-turbo 2.0-litre Panther engines with outputs anticipated to change slightly.

In the United States, the current 2.3 EcoBoost engine will be supplemented with an electric motor and become a plug-in hybrid, with a second option set to feature.

At present, rumours point to the unit being either the 2.7 EcoBoost V6 from the Bronco and/or the 298kW/563Nm 3.0 EcoBoost V6 from the Explorer ST that will motivate the Raptor.

In spite of the petrol Raptor being tipped for right-hand-drive availability, the flagship international engine is set to be the 3.0 Powerstroke turbodiesel V6, recently axed from the F-150 range due to slow sales, that makes 186kW/597Nm.

As with the current Ranger, the oil-burner will be the standard powerunit on the Wildtrak and the Raptor with the only transmission mentioned so far being the General Motors co-developed ten-speed automatic.

Set to revealed later this year as evident by not only the mentioned spy image, but also the initial teaser clip and original spy image from January, the Ranger will once again be built at the Silverton Plant outside Pretoria, currently going through renovations as part of the Blue Oval’s record R15.8-billion investment announced back in February.

As well as the Ranger, the next generation Everest will continue to be made on local soil, along with the all-new Volkswagen Amarok which will ride on the same T6.2 platform and debut locally at the end of next year following its world debut sometime earlier in 2022.
