Ford won’t build a Fiesta RS

Ford says there is no need for the RS because the soon-to-arrive Fiesta ST will be already fast enough.

A few weekend ago, Ford Performance Europe boss Leo Roeks hinted at the possibility of a Fiesta RS that will slot above the ST, but it looks as if that will not be happening anytime soon.

To reiterate that statement even further, Ford official Amko Leenarts, head of design for Europe, said there was no need for the RS because the soon-to-arrive Fiesta ST will be already fast enough.

“We see no reason to bring a more powerful Fiesta model above the ST. The performance of the new Fiesta ST is already at such a high level that a more powerful model is not necessary.”

As much as Ford isn’t bringing the RS, Volkswagen has admitted that the Polo GTI has room to grow. So we won’t be surprised if the Wolfsburg folks bring a hotter version of the Polo GTI.

Who knows? Maybe Ford might follow suit.
