Audi CEO confirms TT has a future

In November last year, Audi Head of Communications and former DTM driver, Peter Oberndorfer, told Australia’s caradvice.com.au that the TT would not spawn a range of distinct models following a prior report by Auto Express that it will become a coupe-like four-door sedan similar to the Mercedes-Benz CLA .

“So you have to concentrate more and more and think about what you can do and what you can afford. So we’re quite happy with one TT at the moment. Where the recent stories came from, I don’t know. I don’t know about a four-door TT,” Oberndorfer said at the time.

Subsequently, a report from Autocar in February of this year claimed that Audi CEO, Bram Schot, had thrown his support behind the idea of a four-door TT, only to reveal last month at a reported board meeting that it will be killed off completely in favour of an all-electric sports car.

According to a fresh report from the Netherlands, however, Schot, who replaced disgraced former Chairman Rupert Stadler last year, has backtracked on his original statement, saying that the TT will indeed spawn a third generation.

“I am a person of flesh and blood and I also like beautiful things. Of course there will be a successor!” autoblog.nl quoted Schot as having told Dutch radio station, BNR.

In the same interview, Schot also stated that he had had enough of people ‘whining’ about the TT, as nearly every second question he had been asked involved whether it still has a future.

With Audi having introduced the refreshed TT in July last year and its RS sibling in February, expect the third generation to only debut in 2021 or 2022.
