After briefly appearing at the 2017 Festival of Motoring, Kia is finally bringing its Stinger to South Africa.

According to Kia SA, the Stinger will arrive in SA in August 2018, but get your order books ready because only a limited number of Stingers will be finding homes here.

“Unlike any KIA that has come before it, the Stinger is the embodiment of an everyday dream car,” says Gary Scott, CEO of KIA Motors South Africa.

“From its birth as the GT concept, through the years of tuning and refining it on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, no detail was spared to create a true gran turismo. It is not about outright power, hard-edged dynamics and brutal styling at the expense of luxury, comfort and grace. Instead, it’s a driver’s car equally suitable for spirited long-distance driving and everyday enjoyment.”

.

The KIA Stinger was designed in Europe by Peter Schreyer, KIA’s chief design officer and president, and Gregory Guillaume, senior chief designer for KIA Motors Europe.

The Stinger will be available in GT Trim. Power will come from a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol churning out a BMW M2 threatening 272kW of power and 510Nm of torque.

.

All that amount of power is sent to the Stinger’s rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, making it Kia’s first rear-wheel drive car.

It will dash from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 270 km/h.

Full specification details and pricing of the SA-bound KIA Stinger will be announced at the end of April 2018.
