Europe versus SA on track

The event will be the second in a three-part series between Europe and South Africa.


The Rock Raceway in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, will host an international event on Saturday, with a team of European drivers taking on South Africa’s best in the class for two-litre Hotrod Saloon Cars.

The event will be the second in a three-part series between Europe and South Africa. Representing Europe will be drivers Joey Reynolds, Ian Boumont, Joey Palmer and Tom Waller of England, Adam Maxwell of Northern Ireland, Germany’s Frank Nohring and Jan Kuper of Holland.

Led by team captain Gavin Botha, the South African contingent will comprise of Chantelle Lewis, Eric Wiliams, Freek Buitendach, Marnus du Plessis, Dawie Nel and Frans van Dyk.

The two teams will engage in battle over two heats and a final race during the course of the afternoon and evening.

Supporting the oval track events will be racing for 1 660cc Modified Saloons, 1 600cc Stockrods, Super Saloons, Midgets, 125cc Karts and Ninja Karts.

Rounding out the programme will be races for Formula N road cars, using both the oval and the Rock venue’s twisty road circuit.

  • The Rock Raceway gates open at 10am, with practice sessions for all competitors during the day; Racing will kick off at 5pm, with three races per category; and
  • Admission fee is R100 for adults and R40 for children between the ages of six and 12 years.
