Heading a field of 25 cars and the championship will be veteran Ben Morgenrood in his IndyOil Mustang. Big Ben will only need to score one sixth place to become the 2013 GT champion.
The crafty old fighter will probably want to secure the title in the first race and finish his season with a victory in the second. Challenging him for victories will be Larry Wilford (Fuchs Titan Corvette), Franco di Matteo (Varta Batteries Jaguar) and Terry Wilford (Hot Wheels Mustang).
Romano Sartori (AMC Mustang) could also challenge for podium places as could Roelf du Plessis (Team 22 Corvette), Jody van Zummeren (Border Towing Corvette) and Steve Herbst (Prei Instrumentation Corvette).
Making his debut in the GT class will be already crowned 2013 Shelby CanAm title holder Rui Campos. He will drive a Hollard sponsored Mustang and his progress will be keenly followed.
Returning to the fold will be Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Jaguar XKR), Steve Smith (Cool Cats Mustang) and Willie Hepburn (Hepburn Racing Corvette). Finally, Maarty Maartens will make his debut at the wheel of a Denmore Steel Jaguar XKR.
Topping the Shelby CanAm entry list will be Ferdi van Niekerk (Motorola Cordless Shelby), Alan Eve (Pilot Pens Shelby), Craig Shorter (dotsure.co.za Shelby) and Andrew Strike (Strike 1 Shelby).
Justin Pengilly (Azura Retreats Shelby), Doug MacDonald (Fantastic Shelby, Hanno Pengilly (Azura Retreats Shelby) and Alister Brown (NAC Helicopters Shelby) should feature in the midfield battle. Rounding out the field will be Gerald Chapman (Compendium Insurance Shelby) and Thomas Reib (Q Nomy Shelby).
Two drivers will make their sports car racing debut at the meeting. Former SASCAR driver Rob Beaumont (Auto Truck and Tyres Shelby) will drive the ex Campos while Menno Parsons will drive Brian Algar’s Compendium Insurance machine.
v Having clinched the 2013 Engen Polo Cup title, Kosie Weyers (Primax Polo) should be the man to beat in the Kyalami outing. He will be challenged by the likes of Mathew Hodges (ITR Africa Polo), Dewald Brummer (MAD Polo), Mark Silverwood (OKI Polo), Trevor Bland (Alpine Motors Polo) and Jeffrey Kruger (IndyOil Polo).
