Mercedes-AMG has sprung an unexpected surprise by debuting a subtly revised version of the GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door overnight without applying the same tweaks to the rest of the range.
Modelled on the second generation AMG GT Coupe that premiered last month, the most powerful production car Affalterbach currently makes receives the restyled Panamericana grille and Multibeam LED headlights, a wider lower air intake and new vertical air ducts on the flanks of the revised bumper.

Still riding on standard 20-inch or optional 21-inch alloy wheels, the rear facia remains unchanged along with the interior, although features previously available from the options list have now been made standard.
These include the mentioned LED headlights and the upgraded software for the MBUX infotainment system, the panoramic sunroof, a Burmester sound system and a wireless smartphone charger for the rear passengers.
Dynamically, the AMG tuned rear-axle steering system also comes standard, along with the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension and the carbon composite AMG brakes made-up of a six-piston caliper setup at the front and single at the rear with respective disc sizes of 420 mm and 380 mm.
Available for the first time in Benz’s new Opalite White Metallic paint option, up front, the GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door keeps its most powerful AMG model accolade as a result of no changes having taken place.
As such, the combination of the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, two electric motors producing up to 150 kW and the 6.1-kWh battery pack produce a combined 620kW/1 400Nm that will rocket the E Performance from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 316 km/h.
A plug-in hybrid all about performance rather than short spell emissions-free driving, the GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door has a claimed all-electric range of 12 km and comes standard with a 3.7 kW on-board charger.
As evident by its name, drive is routed to all four wheels through the AMG-optimised 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive via the nine-speed MCT gearbox.
Now available for ordering in Germany, with the expected visual changes unlikely to be applied to the lesser GT 63 and GT 63 S updated last year, the GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door carries a sticker price of €207 708 (R4 262 280) with a variety of exterior packs also available priced from €654 (R13 420) to €7 021 (R144 074) for the unique Selenite Grey Magno paint option.
Unveiled in now pre-facelift guise in South Africa earlier this year, expect the three-point star to opt for the revised model once local sales kick-off in 2024.
