Historic tour returns home

The event should provide a wide range of entertainment, with 11 separate racing categories catering for 210 entries in a total of 23 races.

> The SKF Pre-1966 Legend Production Car category will head up proceedings, with top contenders to include Franco Scribante (Remos Ford Mustang), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Chevrolet Nova), Thomas Falkiner (Sunday Times Ford Mustang), Mark du Toit (Smokey Yunic Chevelle), Hennie Groenewald (SP Mercury Comet) and category newcomer Jeffrey Kruger in the Black Widow Chev Bel Air.

Challenging the V8 brigade will be seriously fast drivers in four-cylinder cars, like Alfa Giulietta owners Clive Densham, Marc Miller, Shaun Cabrita and Roy Prando, plus BMW 2002 pilot Juan Gerber.

> The Pre-1966 Le Mans Sports Car category should produce a fight between Mark du Toit (Lola T70 Spyder), Ross Lazarus (Ford GT40), Oliver Dalais (Ford GT40), Keith Hinckley (Cobra) plus the Daytona Coupe entries of Jonathan du Toit, Peter Lindenberg and Terry Wilford.

> The Consolidated Auctioneers Pre-1974 Sports and GT Car races should see fights between Colin Clay (Genie Lola T70), Jonathan du Toit (Chevron B8), Colin Ellison (Chevron B18), Franco Scribante (Porsche 911), Colin Frost (Ford GT40), Chris Clark (Morgan Ford), George Avvakoumiders (Ocean Basket Porshe RSR) and Peter Jenkins (Chevron B16).

> The SKF Pre-1966 Little Giants events will boast an entry of more than 30 cars, headed by Frank Copping (Renault Dauphine), Franco Resta (MGB), Keith van Heerden (Jaguar D-Type), Nick Parrot (MGB), Josh Dovey (Austin Healey Sprite), André Reynecke (Volvo P1800), Terrence Botes (Mini Cooper S), Ferdi van Niekerk (Porsche 356), Vic Peachy (Alfa Giulia) and Ishmael Balloyi (GSM Dart).

> Single seater enthusiasts will not be left out in the cold, with veteran Iain Schofield (Investchem Mygale) leading the Investchem Formula Ford Kent entry.

Others to watch will include Mathys Strydom (Ford Talon), Andreas Pettrou (Ford Reynard), Ben van der Westhuizen (Ford Royale), Marhew Nash (Ford Van Diemen), Rex Tweedie (Ford Swift) and Graham Hepburn (Ford Ray).

> A wide variety of cars should tackle the Sabela Marque Cars handicap races. Top contenders should be people like Stuart Grant (Mercedes-Benz 280), Roger Housten (MGB), Howard Nel (Marcos Coupe), Martin van der Merwe (MGB), Bert van Aarde (Ford Capri 3,0), André Reynecke (Porsche 928S) and Wayne Willis (Ford Escort).

> The Sabat Lotus Challenge will boast a full field of fast open cars, headed by Klippies Krige in his Lotus Replica 7 Plus.

He should be chased by people like Jeff Gable (Toyota Birkin), James Forbes (Toyota Birkin), Michael Houghton (Birkin Replica), Rob Gearing (Toyota Birkin) and Timothy Clamp (Replica Birkin).

> Willie Hepburn (Opel Rekord V8) will top the Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-1977 Historic Saloon Car field. Hoping to keep up will be the likes of Anton Raaths (Mazda Coupe), Andre’ Diederichs (Elftrans Chev Camaro), Mike Schmidt (Capri Perana), Eugene Gouws (Master Mowers Chev CanAm) and Pierre de Waal (Alfa Giulietta GTA).

Saturday’s activities will end with a 90 minute endurance event for Pre-1984 Sports & GT, plus Pre-1977 Historic Saloon cars.

The Day/Night Challenge will end close to 7pm, and see a wide variety of Porsches, Datsuns, Fords, Birkins, Alfas and Renaults doing battle.

The venue gates will be open from 6am, racing will start at 10am and tickets will cost R60 per adult, R40 per student and children under 12 free.

As usual there will be special catering for a kiddies play park, supersport events on screen at Aces Café, while the Mini Moke transport system will offer rides to and from the pits and car ports.
