Here’s what makes the new VW Polo GTI stand out
We look forward to testing it in the coming weeks for a thorough evaluation.
.
The much-awaited Volkswagen Polo GTI has finally landed on our shores, and it looks stunning.
While we look forward to testing it in the coming weeks for a thorough evaluation, it is an all-new car and features a 2.0 engine. The previous one had a 1.8 engine.
So we decided to jot down a few things that make it stand out:
It is cheaper than the outgoing Polo GTI
While the DSG version of the previous-generation Polo GTI came in at R379 900 before it exited our market earlier this year, the new model apparently starts at R375 900 because it is produced here in Mzansi.
Reduced height
It has a 15mm reduced ride height, stiffer solid front and rear anti-roll bars of 21mm diameter and uprated springs and dampers.
Power now comes from a 2.0-litre engine
It features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine sending 147 kW and 320 N.m to the front wheels – 6kW more than the model it replaces.
VW says the new Polo GTI will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 237km/h.
Chows less fuel, according to … uhm … VW
Volkswagen also says the new Polo GTI will chow 5.9 L/100 km – better than what the outgoing Polo GTI uses.
Sport suspension
The Polo GTI is the only model of the series to be delivered with a sport suspension as standard.
New Active Info Display (optional)
The new Polo GTI becomes the first Volkswagen and first Volkswagen Group models to feature a new generation of the Active Info Display. That, sadly, comes at an additional price.
