Four-pot diesel and petrol V6 confirmed for Hyundai Staria

An announcement regarding local availability of the Staria is expected in the coming weeks.

Having taken the wraps off of the spaceship-like Staria earlier this week without revealing any technical specs, a fresh report from South Korea has revealed details of the power units Hyundai will employ for its H-1 replacement.

In publishing a series of images of the Korean domestic market Staria, thekoreancarblog.com reports that two engines will be offered; the familiar 2.2-litre turbodiesel outputting 148 kW and as hinted at by the official images, a 3.5-litre petrol V6 detuned from the 210 kW in the Grandeur to 177 kW.

Unlike the H-1, the Staria is not expected to feature a manual gearbox as the only cog-swapper poised for introduction comes in the form of the Palisade’s push-button operated eight-speed automatic. Another departure from the H-1 is that drive goes to the front wheels rather than the rear.

In addition to the specs, the online publication also detailed a handful of features the Korean-spec Staria will come standard with. Aside from the panel van, which will be offered in three or five-seat guise, the passenger model will have seating for nine, seven and eleven with two trim levels available; Smart and Modern.

At the top end is the Staria Lounge available in two grades of its own; the Prestige that provides seating for seven or nine and the flagship Inspiration exclusively available in seven-seat configuration.

Depending on the grade, the Lounge’s specification sheet comprises of the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster of the same size, a dual-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, a Bose sound system, Blind Spot Monitoring and full-LED headlights.

In spite of Hyundai remaining mum, officially, on the Staria’s spec and engines, an official announcement is likely to be made in the coming weeks along with possible confirmation of South African market availability.
