Wait almost over: Suzuki Jimny five-door pricing revealed

Longer and taller than the three-door, the five-door, in top-spec GLX form, also gains a bigger infotainment system and automatic climate control.

Its official South African launch set to take place in less than two weeks’ time, local market pricing of the eagerly awaited Suzuki Jimny five-door has surfaced online, with final specification still to be announced.

Five-doors’ gains

Reported last month as being in transit from India en-route to markets in Africa and the Middle East, the five-door Jimny rides on an extended version of the three-door’s ladder-frame chassis with dimensional gains of 360 mm in overall length, 340 mm in wheelbase and 50 mm in overall height.

For South Africa, where the final length is curiously claimed to be 340 mm longer than the three-door, the five-door measures 3 965 mm long, 1 720 mm tall and 1 645 mm wide, with the wheelbase stretching 2 590 mm.

Offering 211-litres of boot space with the rear seats up versus the three-door’s 59-litres, the five-door Jimny retains the AllGrip four-wheel-drive system with selectable low range, as well as the limited slip differential and 210 mm of ground clearance.

Shown on local soil at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring in August, the five-door’s other key difference is a breakover angle of 24-degrees versus the three-door’s 28-degrees, a departure angle of 47-degrees compared to 49-degrees and an approach angle one-degree down at 36-degrees.

Same power, spec to be announced soon

Based on information provided by specialist vehicle information website, duoporta.com, the five-door follows the same route as the three-door by being offered in GL and GLX trim levels, although only the latter can be specified with the five-speed manual gearbox or optional four-speed automatic.

Notably, the GLX gains a new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as automatic climate control, however, as mentioned, expect final spec to be announced either at the reveal or in the run-up within the coming days.

Underneath its bonnet, the five-door, which ticks the scales at 1 200 kg in its heaviest form, 90 kg more than the comparative three-door Jimny, prevails with the long-serving 1.5-litre normally aspirated K15B petrol engine producing 75kW/130Nm.

Colours and price

Upping the local Jimny line-up count to seven, the trio of five-door models receive the same five-year/200 000 km warranty and four-year/60 000 km service plan as the three-door, but with a difference choice in colours.

In total, six mono-tone options are available; Silky Silver, Arctic White, Granite Grey, Celestial Blue, Bluish Black and Jungle Green, while the dual-tone choices span three hues, all contrasted by black roof; Chiffon Ivory, Sizzling Red and Kinetic Yellow.
