Fire tunnel Guinness World Record attempt to take Parys by storm
With just more than a week to go, preparations for next Friday's Guinness Fire Tunnel record attempt in Parys are running at fever pitch.
HOT STUFF. Stunt riders Enrico Schoeman and Andre’ de Kock with the Fire Tunnel Bike, with which they will attack a 700 degree Celcius fire tunnel next Friday.
The riders, Enrico Schoeman and André de Kock, have taken delivery of their fire retardant clothing from First Race, plus Shark helmets from Langston Motorsport.
The steel structure of the tunnel is being built and a serious search is on for the correct thickness of cardboard to burn. Wayne Hardie of Fireworx is coordinating the tunnel logistics.
Fuel supplier Force Fuel has agreed to sponsor the television coverage of the event, while Dalene Bishop of the Teddy Bear Clinic – a nonprofit organisation dedicated to ensuring abused children are protected and rehabilitated – has covered vast distances and learnt a lot about the weird world of stunt people.
Attorney Jeff Malherbe, who oversees the entire project, has also been a busy man.
The record attempt is scheduled for 7.30pm on Friday, September 5, and will take place on the campsite of this year’s Rhino Rally.
The rally is set to be a huge success, with more than 8 000 bikers already booked. Parys will be pumping, with every B&B, restaurant and bar operating at maximum capacity.
And, at the end of the day, the team will bring home another new Guinness World record.
