Double barrelled spectacle

THE Rock Raceway will be a hive of activity over the long weekend and is offering spectators two days of tar oval circuit racing.


The venue will host other clubs from Richards Bay, Welkom, Klerksdorp, Rietkuil Raceway, Pretoria, Vereeniging and Polokwane. It adds up to a Speed Weekend Sprint Cup Challenge and a Champion of Champions Event.

Competitors will have the opportunity on Friday to set quickest lap times in each class of the Sprint Cup Challenge. There will be a floating trophy awarded in each class for the quickest lap set, and drivers who participate will automatically qualify for Saturday’s Champion of Champions.

On Friday the gates will open for practice and documentation at 10am. Lap record chasing and qualifying for all classes will take place from 2pm to 8pm.

Admission will cost R40 per car with four people and after that an extra R10 per person.

On Saturday the gates will open at 10am with racing scheduled to start at 2pm, and admission will cost R60 per adult and R30 per child between six and 12.

Classes include V8 Thunder Sprint Cars, Formula 2 Midgets, V8 Flexis, Super Saloons, Two-litre Modified Saloons, Pintos, Retro Rods, HotRod Rotaries, 1660 Saloons, 125cc Shifter Karts and 100cc Micro Karts.
