Extended wheelbase new Chery Tiggo 9 Pro uncovered

Featuring styling cues from certain Lincoln models, the Tiggo 9 Pro will reportedly be some 100 mm longer in length than the Tiggo 8 Pro.


It’s success outside of China going to grow, especially in South Africa, resurgent Chery will soon officially unveil a new flagship Tiggo SUV expected to the called the Tiggo 9 Pro.

Chinese styling meets German and American

Uncovered without disguise or pre-production body panels by China’s AutoHome, the Tiggo 9 Pro receives the same Mercedes-AMG Panamericana-inspired grille as the recently updated Tiggo 7 Pro, but everything changes from the B-pillar back.

Sporting a side profile similar to the Lincoln Navigator, the Tiggo 9 Pro is also longer, by a speculated 100 mm, with the door handles being pop-out items and the roof lowered at the rear.

The Lincoln-esque touches continue in not only the look of the 20-inch alloy wheels, but also the curved bonnet sides that flow into the wings in a style similar not only the Navigator, but also the smaller Nautilus.

At the rear, the entire rear gets its unique appearance with sharpened-off LED light clusters bearing a resemblance to those of the Audi Q8, connected via a chrome strip as well as an ultra-thin LED light bar running across the tailgate above the chrome Chery logo.

Although no interior images were revealed, reports are the Tiggo 9 Pro’s cabin will be derived from the Omada 5 and the mentioned facelift Tiggo 7 Pro, meaning the inclusion of the dual digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, removal of the Audi-inspired lower climate control panel and more specification items.

Up front and when?

Set to provide seating for five or seven, motivation is expected to come from the in-house developed 2.0 T-GDI petrol engine that debuted in South Africa earlier this week in the Tiggo 8 Pro Max. This means outputs of 187kW/390Nm fed to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

According to motor1.com Brazil, certain markets will also be privy to all-wheel-drive, plus a plug-in hybrid model tipped to produce the 236 kW as the Tiggo 7 Pro plug-in hybrid does. As with the rest of the Tiggo Pro line-up, the Tiggo 9 Pro will be underpinned by Chery’s T1X platform.

Supposedly premiering during the first quarter of next year, expect more details to become apparent next year with the same applying to Chery South Africa’s decision of making the Tiggo 9 Pro available above the Tiggo 8 Pro.
