WATCH: Petrolheads weep as BMW M3 smashes into Audi RS4 Avant

A meeting between revered models of BMW and Audi took on a literal and somewhat violent meaning at a car festival in Belgium this past weekend.

Watch and cringe below

Posted by the Arthur Materne Production YouTube page, the incident took place on Sunday at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the annual Les Bruleurs De Gommes car meet, reportedly one of the biggest events on the country’s motoring calendar.

As the video shows, matters go wrong around the four second mark when the driver of an F80 generation BMW M3 applies too much throttle as the field of cars slowly exits the corner known as La Source entered from the opposite direction in racing scenarios.

Crunch

The loss of traction at what still appears to be a low speed results in the M3 rotating, before impacting the stationary Audi RS4 Avant safety car on the driver’s side.

As the video shows, the impact triggered the M3’s curtain airbags, though none of its occupants appeared injured as evident by both getting out almost immediately.

The same cannot be said of the M3 though, whose front left-hand door took the full brunt of the smash against the shattered tailgate of the white RS4 Avant.

A secondary video posed on TikTok of the same accident shows the driver of M3 trying the correct the spin away from the RS4, only to run-out of space and hit the Audi.

Had the offering from Ingolstadt not been present, a likely 360-degree spin would have been the M3 driver’s only problem, along with a dented ego as accident happened on the track’s main straight in front of the pitlane and spectators in the grandstands.

Damaged wallet

Even more bad news for the M3 driver is the RS4 appears to have been ‘donated’ to Spa as evident by Audi Sport numberplates instead of it belonging to a private buyer who had offered it as safety car for the day.

Either way, the smash now requires deep pockets for the repairs to go along with the M3’s driver damaged rather than bruised self-esteem.
