BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe leaks ahead of September unveiling

The third body derivative of the revived BMW 8 Series has leaked online ahead of its expected world debut in September.

First leaked by the BMW Blog and then subsequently picked-up by Britain’s Auto Express, the all-new four-door Gran Coupe joins the coupe and cabriolet models already on sale, with the accompanying images seeing it featuring the same frontal facia design as its siblings, but with an elongated, sloping roofline and a fastback-like appearance bearing close resemblance to that of the model it replaces, the 6 Series Gran Coupe.

Although nothing else is known at this stage, expect the Gran Coupe to come with the same interior and assortment of comfort and safety features as its brethren, and with the same range of engines; the 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel that makes 320kW/680Nm in the 840d, and the 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the M850i xDrive.

Still to be confirmed, an M8 version could also join as a rival for the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic+.
