4 road safety viral videos that make you think

Nothing drives the message home about road safety quite like a shocking, emotional viral video. We chose four videos that will make you think a little differently when you get behind the wheel.

1) Speed Ad – Mistake

Created by the New Zealand Transport Agency, this viral video has over 10 million views on YouTube. The message? No one should pay for a mistake with their life.

2) Embrace Life – Always Wear Your Seatbelt

When The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) wanted to make an engaging online advertising campaign to encourage people to wear their seatbelts, its doubtful they thought their video would get over 18 million views. Ditching the shock of traditional road safety campaigns it instead tries to deliver a positive emotion.

3) Classroom Safety

This brutal Northern Irish Department of Environment Road Safety ad – titled ‘Classroom’ was been banned from being shown on TV before 9pm and criticised for its slightly  CGI and excessive shock factor.  With just under 4 million views, this video shows a driver speeding along a road before his car flips and lands on a group of children enjoying a picnic. Warning: Not for sensitive viewers

4) Dumb Ways to Die

While this viral video focuses more on train safety than road safety per say, its message came across quite strong. With over 88 million YouTube views, a downloadable song, several spinoff videos and even its own game app (iOS and Google), this viral video from Metro Trains Melbourne shows you can use different mediums to spread the message.
