Tree planting in Noordwyk is delayed

NOORDWYK – Due to the Covid-19 Level 3 lockdown, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has moved their tree planting project along Walton Road to the end of February.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has shifted their scheduled tree planting along Walton Road in Noordwyk to the end of February.

The project, which will see the planting of 1 000 trees on the pavement along the road, was announced at the end of last year and was expected to start this month.

Region A manager Joseph Ndou said the new date for the project was 24 February. Ndou explained that the project was aimed at developing Johannesburg’s man-made forest by connecting the green canopies between Midrand and Sandton.

He added that the trees being planted in the residential area would contribute to the reduction of noise and carbon dioxide emitted due to traffic. He said the project depended on various factors before it could start.

“We are currently awaiting on the approval of the wayleaves that have been sent through and the response from various stakeholders that will help us. “We moved the date to the end of February due to lockdown. We have put measures in place in case lockdown Level 3 restrictions are not eased, since we can only have a limited number people on-site at a given time.”
