Policeman testified how an eight-year-old was raped by mum’s boyfriend in Matsulu

The man was arrested after the victim had told her mother about the incidents which occurred nine years ago, while the mother had been dating the accused who was then a taxi driver ferrying children, including the victim, to school.

The KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court heard how a 29-year-old local man repeatedly raped an eight-year-old, nine years ago while he dated her mother.

The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, now 17 years old, appeared for his formal bail application at this very same court last Thursday.

He was arrested on April 23.

The investigating officer, Sgt Xolani Nxumalo, opposed the bail application. He alleged that on March 2013, the accused called the minor to the bedroom where he was sleeping and asked her if she was romantically involved with anyone.

“He told the victim that he wanted to be her boyfriend and would show her what boyfriends do. He kissed her, smeared his penis with Vaseline and raped her,” testified Nxumalo.
He added that the accused closed the victim’s mouth while raping her and ordered her not to tell anyone.

Nxumalo testified that the accused also raped the victim after making her watch a pornographic video in the house while her mother was away at work.

The magistrate, TL Maphophe, granted the accused R3 000 bail. He ordered him to report to Matsulu Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 06:00 and 18:00.
“You are ordered not to threaten or communicate with the victim. You are not allowed to leave Mbombela without reporting directly to the investigating officer,” he instructed the accused.
The matter was postponed for further investigation to August 27.
