Tubatse’s Ratels honour top-performing players at awards ceremony

The big winner for the night was Brandon Par-Bayley, who was nominated the player of the season.

The management of the Laeveld Ratels honoured the top-performing players in the 2024 Ehlanzeni Mayor’s League competition.

The glittering awards ceremony was held at the Winterveld Recreational Club on Saturday, October 5. It was attended by the players, their partners, team management, the sponsors and some passionate fans.

Those who excelled during this season received trophies and gifts.

The big winners included the player of the season, Brandon Par-Bayley, the most committed player, Dean van Staden, the up-and-coming player, George Gerritsen, and the most tries award was shared by Marko Maré and Rian Appelgryn. Maré and Par-Bayley shared the most points scored award.

The sponsors and all the players of the 2024 season were honoured with gifts by the management.
The team manager, Marius Weber, thanked the management of the Winterveld Recreational Club for their support.

“We are grateful for your support and the opportunity you gave us to host our home matches at this venue.”

The Ratels’ 2024 rugby season saw them succumbing to a 29-17 semi-final loss away to the eventual winners, Malelane Rugby Club. The team management said they would regroup to try and bring the coveted trophy back to Tubatse next season.

The team boasts players from Steelpoort, Burgersfort and Ohrigstad. The ceremony was closed off with the ladies singing “Bamboesblare” to the players.
