Search is on for Powerball and Lotto millionaires

The search is on for this year's first two Powerball Plus and Lotto winners as they sitting on a combined R40 million in unclaimed prize money.

The search is on for this year’s first Powerball plus and Lotto winners as they sitting on a combined R40 million in earnings.

In a statement released on Friday, ITHUBA – official owners of the National Lottery in South Africa – said they were looking for the two recent jackpot winners to come forward and claim their prize.

“One winner won over R14 million in the PowerBall Plus jackpot from the Tuesday night draw on 11 January. The ticket was purchased in Cape Town, via the quick pick selection with a wager of R30,” the statement read.

The second winner won over R26 million in the Lotto jackpot from Wednesday (12 January) night’s draw. The game was played on the Absa banking app via manual selection with a wager of R300.

ITHUBA is urging players to check their tickets and visit their nearest regional office to claim their jackpot winnings.

CEO of ITHUBA Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winners and pointed out the many ways people can purchase tickets, which included retail outlets through one of their banking partners’ apps such as FNB, ABSA, Nedbank and Standard Bank.

The last time the National Lottery was on the hunt for a jackpot winner was just last December.

It called on people to check their tickets after R14 million in the Lotto Plus 2 prize was won, but had not been claimed.

In the same month, an Ekurhuleni man walked away with the R63 million, with a wager of R100 using the quick-pick selection.

After almost misplacing his ticket, he decided to keep it in his cupboard for safety.

“Since playing from 2013, I would normally use a combination of my lucky numbers, whether its family birth dates or my children’s age,” said the 38-year-old, who works at a gas company.
