With the 1 June back-to-school date moved to June 8, the Gauteng department of education has shared on their social media handles that they are still in the process of hiring their youth brigades.

The youth brigade is responsible for helping to enforce health and safety protocols in schools to tenure that all schools are complying with the Covid-19 safety requirements.

Ahead of the schools opening, the department quotes the statistics that out of 305,000 applications that were received, 70,000 have been shortlisted and only 2,000 already trained. Out of these 2,000, only four have been deployed.
