A worldwide search is on for six iron thrones

Five of the six thrones have already been found, with only one left undiscovered.

The imminent release of the new season of Game of Thrones sees fans searching the world for six copies of the famous Iron Throne, and five of them have been found thus far.

The thrones have been hidden in locations as diverse as Sweden, Spain, Brazil, England, and Canada in an HBO promotional campaign that has fans hoping to find the last one and win the final golden crown.

The first throne was uncovered by Alex Bowring and Tom Maullin-Sapey from Oxford, England, who followed the clues to the ancient Puzzlewood woodland in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, said to have inspired JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

Thrones have subsequently been found in snowy Canada and Sweden, while another was located on a beach in Spain.

The promotion was teased in a Facebook video in which actors from the Emmy-winning fantasy drama announced the hunt by saying: “The quest for the throne is on.”

The new season debuts on April 14 2019.
