Lego: The Hobbit game confirmed for 2014

Warner Bros. has officially announced the Lego: The Hobbit video game following the emergence of artwork for the game leaking last week.

Expected to be released in early 2014, the game will be based on the first two films in the motion picture trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug.

Playable characters include Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, alongside all of the dwarves: Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, and Ori. Each dwarf will have a unique ability, the most noticeable of which is Bombur being able to use his belly as a trampoline. Confirmed locations include Bag End, Bilbo’s Hobbit-hole in Hobbiton, the High Pass over the Misty Mountains, Goblin-town, Mirkwood and Rivendell.

Lego regular TT Games is handling development of the title and they are not expected to deviate much from their tried-and-tested formula for Lego titles, as seen in their prior title Lego: Lord of the Rings. However, players will also be able to mine for gems, discover loot from enemies, and craft powerful magical items or build immense new Lego structures.

The game will be released on a myriad platforms, namely: Mac, Nintendo 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Two additional screenshots for the title can be seen below.
