‘He never gave a true picture of the state of his health’ – actor on former Isidingo colleague
Following a Sunday World report that SABC 3 soapie Isidingo had been canned after 21 years on our screens, South Africans have taken to social media to voice their disappointment. The soapie has been commended for story lines that are relevant to the South African audience, among other reasons. As a result, viewers have started an online petition to save the show.
Dean Kotze started the petition calling on the South African Broadcasting Corporation to save the soapie.
“Please join me as I petition the SABC from cancelling our favourite weekly daily soap, Isidingo! This is so wrong and unfair in so many ways. Let us take a stand against the SABC and say enough is enough!”
The petition has garnered more than 1,000 signatures so far.
These were some of the reactions on social media:
SABC : Save Isidingo! – Sign the Petition! https://t.co/9iCTsZQuZu
Please sign the petition, #Isidingo is a great soap opera, probably the only soapie in SA that represents the rainbow nation. The storyline & actors are amazing. Always adding current issues in their storyline.

Isidingo one is so tricky😭.
They were the only soapie on SABC with less than a million viewers BUT they were also the most watched show on SABC 3 😩.SABC shutting down soon.
We’ll have no national broadcaster. https://t.co/YB6aRTPQKu— Saint’s Mama 👶🏽🤍 (@GueyPashel) November 24, 2019

Isidingo is SABC 3's most viewed show and has less than a million viewers. Of course they had to can it cause those numbers just aren't good enough.

Thank you for the human trafficking, drug dealing and every other real life stories you've shown us. Isidingo has given a thousand of viewers exactly what South Africa looks like. It has been the realest soapie I've ever seen in my entire existence. Thanks a million. #Isidingo

The SABC decision to cancel terminate #Isidingo from our screens is a personal attack on all of us who relate, follow and love the soapie nje.
First it was #TopBilling and as we are still dealing with that, they drop this bomb shell on us.
Mara why vele SABC

Instead of removing #Isidingo can they just air it at 2am, those who are serious with it will have to set alarms to wake up. #SABC3 pic.twitter.com/zt7WTxJeoI
