Arts Alive to celebrate culture with Jazz on the Lake

Supported by the City of Johannesburg, Arts Alive has consistently presented brilliant arts and culture events for communities around Joburg.

Arts Alive 2019 will once again deliver another excellent programme with Jazz on the Lake on Sunday.

This year’s vibrant lineup reaches across traditional art barriers and out to the young and old, through commercial and avant-garde spaces, ensuring many art forms of numerous genres and their contributions are recognised while highlighting the significance of keeping the arts alive.

The queen of African house music, Bucie Nkomo, is ready to get Joburgers in the spring mood as one of the headline acts at this year’s festival.

Other notable performers are Michel Herrera Sax and the Madre Tierra Band (Cuba); Tamy Moyo (Zimbabwe), Sjava (SA), Vusi Nova (SA), Ami Faku Music (SA) and Billy Monama; Artist Page (SA); and the Tune Recreation Committee (SA) with Afrika Mkhize (piano), Mandla Mlangeni (trumpet), Keenan Ahrends (guitar), Vuyo Manyike (bass) and Clement Benny (drums).

The festival underwrites the important role of culture for the critical and active citizenry, solidarity and diversity.

Its flagship event, Jazz on the Lake, is synonymous with this and welcomes families to enjoy outdoor picnic vibes at Zoo Lake with music that appeals to all.

The event will set the tone for an amazing festival and launch of Heritage Month.

There are free metro buses from three Park & Ride Centres: Metro Centre in Braamfontein, Marks Park in Emmarentia and Killarney Mall.

You are more than welcome to bring your own food.
