Joy of Jazz festival to honour outstanding contributors to the arts

Performing on the night is the remarkable ensemble of musicians who have been doing great on the jazz scene.

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz will honour exceptional contributors of the arts at a star-studded, Great Gatsby-themed event at the Sandton Convention Centre, on August 24.

Radio personality Lupi Ngcayisa, who hosted Oleta Adams’ concert at last year’s festival, will host the glitzy affair.

The evening will pay homage to some of the sharpest minds in the arts, whose contributions have shaped the trajectory of the arts industry. These trailblazers will be celebrated and their work recognised.

Performing on the night is the remarkable ensemble of musicians who have been doing great on the jazz scene, including Luyanda Madope (piano), Siphelelo Mabuza (drums), Lwanda Gogwana (flugal horn), Thembinkosi Mavimbela (double bass), Sisonke Xonti, and Senzo Ngcobo (trombone), alongside Spha Mdlalose, Titi Luzipo, Lindiwe Maxolo and Sakhile Moleshe.

“Once again this year we celebrate some of the industry’s trailblazers, and while they are still with us,” said Mantwa Chinoamadi, the producer of the festival.

“Last year, we had a Woman’s HeART about game-changing women in music. This year, we want to include all makers of art – young and old.

“We have a beautiful youth jazz band playing on the night. And who is better than Lupi to host such a momentous event for us,” he added.
