SA thriller ‘Hard To Get’ keeps the pulse

It all started with iNumber Number, when South Africa proved it could make a slick, smooth, satisfying thriller that attracted enough attention to get a Hollywood offer.

Now Zee Ntuli has made a professional, exciting thriller/love story called Hard To Get that will satisfy many South Africans who are dying to be entertained in their own language with their own kind of stories – in a format that competes with international products.

This violent, sexy, pulsating film looks at two outcasts. One is a handsome guy who is a hit with the ladies, well played by Pallance Dladla. His serious eyes and swagger already warn he is trouble and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

The lovely Tshishiwe Ziqubu is a daring, brave young thief who manages to escape a fate worse than death at the beginning of the film. But she hasn’t learnt her lesson yet and challenges fate yet again as she takes on Jozi with her exciting new lover.

Tom Marais’ camerawork, as in iNumber Number, is brilliant: always staying with the action and knowing exactly what to focus on.

Zee Ntuli’s directing is a bit self-indulgent, but pretty much spot-on.
