WATCH: The chilling trailer for Khanyi Mbau’s new thriller

The actress likened the film's storyline to her marriage to Mandla Mthembu.

A South African thriller which has been years in the making is finally about to hit cinemas this March according to recent social media posts by the movie’s lead actress, Khanyi Mbau.

Mbau, who has previously starred in films such as Happiness is a Four Letter Word and Frank and Fearless returns in a way we have never seen.

Directed by Sans Moonsamy, the film follows the story of Zama Marawa (Khanyi Mbau), a rich woman who is kicked out of her cushy life onto the street and into the dark world of human trafficking following a harrowing tragedy.

Speaking to Sowetan last year, Mbau likened the film’s plot to her own life after she shot to stardom during her relationship with businessman Mandla Mthembu.

“I am a woman who was once rich but it all came tumbling down and I found myself without anything. I had to start from the bottom again, doing Mzansi Magic movies and I realised that pride cannot take you anywhere,” said Mbau.

She also revealed that in order to pull off the birth scene shown in the trailer, she ran a few kilometres in an effort to tire herself out and make herself look like a woman going through the experience of giving natural birth, something she said she had no experience of.

The film also stars Busisiwe ‘Cici’ Twala, Aubrey Poo, and Nick Soul.
