SA music legend stuck in French hospital as ‘insurance refuses to pay’

South African music legend Madosini Latozi Mpahleni is reportedly stuck in a hospital in France after suffering heart complications during a performance on November 15.

According to Robert Trunz who was communicating with Pedro Espi-Sanchis, who accompanied her on the trip, the musician suffered two asthma attacks that were also compounded by a faulty valve in her heart.

The statement from Espi-Sanchis further reads: “Both conditions have caused an accumulation of fluid in Madosini’s lungs.

“They are carrying out further tests on her today. I will get further news today and a prognostic for the future but so far it seems the choices are either for Madosini to have heart surgery here or for her to have a medical extraction where she is flown back to SA under medical attention.

“I had of course to also postpone my flight and stay with Madosini as I am her support person on tour, translating from French for her as best as I can as she does not speak English or French and helping her in general.

“Madosini is, however, in very good spirits and very happy with the excellent treatment she is receiving. She has her bows in her room and yesterday she was very happy to play quite a few of our favourite songs.”

Documents seen by Channel24 show communication between Espi-Sanchis and an insurance group that provided Madosini with travel protection for the trip.

“The policy does not cover claims related to cardiovascular conditions, where you received treatment for a cardiovascular condition any time prior to your trip,” parts of the documents reportedly reads.

Trunz further said the French hospital was releasing Madosini despite the insurance company having not paid her medical bill, with the hope she would be able to get the company to pay out.

“The next step is help from the South African Ambassador and our Minister to assist an urgent and safe repatriation. Pedro Espi-Sanchis is waiting to hear further and I will keep us informed.”

Responding to the backlash on social media, Hollard insurance said it was working on bringing her back to South Africa.
