Beyoncé teases new ‘Making the Gift’ TV special

Beyoncé surprised fans with the announcement of the new documentary 'Making the Gift,' which chronicles the creation of her 'The Lion King'-inspired album.

“Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift” will premiere on September 16 at 10 pm (EST) on ABC, or “ABeyC” as the network rebranded itself on Twitter for the event.

The 30-second trailer teased that the film will offer an “intimate” look at the creative process behind “The Gift,” featuring footage of Beyoncé in the recording studio as well as practicing the dance routine featured in the visual for “Spirit.”

The documentary will also detail the creation of every song on “The Gift,” which include guest appearances of co-star Childish Gambino, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and an impressive array of emerging African musicians.

The album, which was a companion to the Jon Favreau-directed remake of “The Lion King,” was produced and curated by the 23-time Grammy winner.

“I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat,” Beyoncé said in a statement, ahead of the album’s release on September 19.

Earlier this year, the artist also released the documentary “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” on Netflix, which documents her performances at Coachella in 2018.

The film was nominated for six awards at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which took place in ceremonies on September 14 and 15.

However, “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” took none of them home, losing to shows such as “Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney,” “Springsteen on Broadway” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
